Corridors and Fields
Northern Kentucky University
1983
12” x 18”

A two-person exhibition featuring sculptures by Derrick Woodham and paintings by McCrystle Wood.

The artists wanted an image that spoke to the essence of their work—walk-through-and-about three dimensional assemblages and large color-field paintings—and not one portraying any works included in the show.

Designed as a multi-purpose piece, some posters were scored and folded for mailing. A 12” x 6” mailer was fashioned by printing on both sides and horizontally scoring the poster and folding it into thirds.

A side note, that may be of interest to young designers, the green color is achieved by printing transparent yellow ink over opaque black ink. Besides producing the green color, the bottom tips of the vertical lines separating the letters becomes yellow by overprinting the ends of these thin white lines. In what appears to be a three color printing only two different inks are used. This is a cost savings method by limiting the amount of inks and passes through the press.
